From Protest Prints to Digital Visions: The Paris Debut of a Korean People’s Artist
Introducing the digital works of Yi Inchul, pioneer of Korea’s Minjung (People’s) Art
GM Dear ArtVerse friends
Hope you are well :) ArtVerse is proud to present
'HOLOÏSME : From the Invisible to the Visible' Yi Inchul Solo Exhibition with special guests Kim Jaemin & Kim Taeha
Opening reception: July 17, 6PM – 9PM
ArtVerse, 5 bis rue de Beauce, 75003 Paris
Yi Inchul, a pivotal figure in Korea’s Minjung Art movement—also known as the “art of the people”—makes his digital debut in France with HOLOÏSME: From the Invisible to the Visible.
Emerging in the 1980s during Korea’s struggle for democracy, Minjung Art gave voice to working-class communities through politically engaged and socially conscious imagery. Yi Inchul became one of its leading artists, known for his deeply moving woodblock prints and hand-carved wooden reliefs that addressed labor, inequality, and collective memory.
Now, for the first time in Paris, Yi presents a new body of work created entirely in digital form. These images are not a break from his past, but a continuation of his commitment to storytelling, resistance, and the ethics of representation—translated into a new medium.
Yi’s digital compositions retain the formal clarity and emotional depth of his earlier practice. Rather than treating digital tools as decoration, Yi uses them to explore how presence, erasure, and memory function in today’s image-saturated world.
The exhibition also features guest works by two younger Korean artists, Kim Jaemin and Kim Taeha, whose personal, fragmented visual languages open a multigenerational dialogue. Their presence alongside Yi invites us to consider how aesthetic concerns endure, evolve, and respond to the times.
In a moment of global instability, HOLOÏSME offers viewers a space for reflection:
What do we see? What do we remember? What remains after the image fades?
This exhibition marks not only Yi Inchul’s digital debut in Paris but also the final chapter of ArtVerse’s Spring–Summer 2025 program. To celebrate this occasion, our upstairs collection gallery has also been fully renewed, offering visitors an expanded and refined curatorial experience.
We warmly invite you to discover the full exhibition across both floors of the gallery.
Please note that entry to the opening event is only possible with prior registration via the link below :)

Following this exhibition, ArtVerse will observe its annual summer closure from August 1 to 30, and reopen in September with a new season of exhibitions.
While our physical space will be closed during August, we invite you to explore our collection online.
Physical works from this exhibition, as well as previous shows, are listed on our Artsy page and will remain available for viewing and acquisition throughout the summer.
We look forward to welcoming you at the opening of HOLOÏSME: From the Invisible to the Visible — a moment of reflection, encounter, and renewal to close the season.
Warmly,
The Artverse Team
